SUMMER GARDENING
-
Fertilize lower beds regularly.
-
Be sure to keep up with watering and mulching in flower beds, especially when it is hot and dry.
-
Be aware that potted plants require extra watering.
SUMMER GARDENING TIPS
- The best time for watering is early morning, to prevent excessive evaporation.
- Set your lawnmower blade height higher during hot and dry weather. Cutting your lawn too short can damage your turf and make it more susceptible to disease and pest infestation.
FUTURE GARDENING PLANS
- Now is an appropriate time to note which areas of your property are most affected by oppressive summer heat. Decide now on locations for shade tree plantings to be installed in the Fall. Properly sited deciduous trees around your home can reduce your energy costs for cooling during the Summer, and lets the sun warm your home in the Winter.
- If you are still tired of watering, plan your underground irrigation system now. Fall (October) is usually our driest time of the year.
- Plan new Fall landscape projects now. Fall is the optimum time for planting new landscapes.
